Volunteering

The Student Volunteer Centre is THE place to go if you want to get involved in volunteering in the community or the Students’ Union. Based in the Portland Building, they’re there to here to help you get the most out of university. Whether that’s through coaching sports, joining a student society or committee, helping Oxfam for an hour a week or working with refugees, that’s up to you. Whatever you’re interested in, we can make it happen.

Nearly 4,000 students signed up to volunteer last year. It’s a free, easy way to get out and about, learn new skills, meet new people and enhance your CV, all whilst doing some good!

Not sure about volunteering? Suck it and see!

Volunteering comes in all shapes and sizes, so for all of you that might not have much free time on your hands (or if you’d just like to give volunteering a try) we’ve created one-off challenges.

These can be anything from helping out on a farm to baking and throwing a tea party for the elderly. There’s nothing better than helping a community project and having a laugh at the same time. And you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve in a day or even one afternoon.

Get stuck in!

However much time you’ve got to give there really is something for everyone with over 130 different projects in the Students Union and local community.

And of course we have our student-led projects. We’ve helped students set up everything from ethical fashion shows to award winning charities in Tanzania, Cambodia and Uganda.
