Interfaith Week

The Students’ Union works with various faith societies to run an Interfaith Forum.

The aims of the forum are to:

·         Promote and facilitate inter faith events and dialogue and renew cooperation between all student societies, for example organising National Interfaith week.

·         Educate our members of the religions and opportunities they have access to.

·         Work together towards common goals and campaigns.

·         Act as a common voice to the Student's Union, the University of Nottingham and wider bodies, both internal and external (where appropriate).

·         Be a resource for the union and university on issues of religion and religious student affairs.

·         Work in cooperation to stop hate speech and all forms of [religious] discrimination including anti-racist, anti-fascism, anti-semitism, islamophobia and xenophobia (working with the BME network).

·         Share resources between societies, networks and officers.

·         Work with the university chaplains on issues of faith and member's welfare.

·         Act as a support for all religious people on campus.

·         Secure the continual support of all faith societies indefinitely and the help establishment of new faith societies (where appropriate).

Past Events

In November 2011 we organised a program of events for National Interfaith week which was very successful. Here is what happened:

All week: Learn something new!

We held an Educational stall on faith and our Religious societies on campus. The stall was there all week; where people could pick up some information about our different faith groups.

Thursday 24rd November: Interfaith Football
Location: Nottingham PowerLeague

Interfaith Football Tournament. This was your chance to express yourself on the football pitch and let the inner sporting genius out to play. Students could have come on their own or with a couple of friends and play six-a-side with people of all faiths.

Friday 25th November
Committees of the involved religious societies will all be enjoying an evening of ‘Food for thought’ thinking about the meaning of light to each faith over some delicious food!

Future Events

We are hoping to run a panel discussion on Religious Observance. More details to follow. If you want to get involved in the organising of this event or have any ideas for speakers please email Simon
