Community

Welcome Back to Nottingham!

With more students looking to live in local areas, the impact of the student population on communities is an important issue.

When you registered as a student at The University of Nottingham you signed up to this statement:

‘I also acknowledge that I have responsibilities to the communities of Nottingham in which I am temporarily resident and undertake to act with consideration and respect for the welfare and interests of the wider community and my fellow students’.

Whilst enjoying your time at University, remembering a few simple things can make your community better for everyone:

  • Introduce yourself to your neighbours
·         Respect your environment-please don’t litter!
·         Only leave your bin on the street on bin day or risk minimum £100 penalty
·         If you need bulky rubbish taken away, call: 0115 915 2000 or 0115 917 777 if you live in Beeston.
·         Respect your neighbours, introduce yourself and keep noise to a minimum!

Get Involved....

  Kontact

Kontact is the “giving” bit of the University of Nottingham's Students’ Union Raising and Giving (RAG) organisation, Karnival. Kontact is all about "taking Karnival into the community" and gives students the opportunity to participate and see first hand where some of the money Karnival works so hard to raise gets spent. Please visit www.su.nottingham/karnival for more information.

The Student Volunteer Centre
Located on the first floor of the Portland Building the Centre can help you volunteer both within and outside of the Union. It has links to over 90 local, national and international projects, helps student run projects, runs one off challenges and can help you find something to do within the Union itself. For more information visit www.su.nottingham.ac.uk/volunteering.

Use your right to vote

If all students in Nottingham used their right to vote, MPs and local councillors would really have to start listening to what students want! As a Nottingham resident for most of the year you are part of the local community and are affected by the same issues as everyone else, including; transport, housing, crime and health. You can register to vote at your home address AND in Nottingham, although you can only use one vote in any election. To find out about elections in your area and for further information on how to register and vote, please visit www.aboutmyvote.co.uk

It’s your vote, use it!
