HOW TO GET INVOLVED

Three steps to becoming a Volunteer

SCA logo - HOMEWe offer the chance to get involved with all kinds of projects and challenges all over Nottingham and the UK that can really make a difference to you, your community and others.

Alternatively, if you’ve got any ideas for a project of your own then let us know and we can help make it happen too.

If you'd like to get involved with any of the projects it's easy - just follow the 3 steps below and we'll do the rest...

 STEP 1. GET IN TOUCH

Interested in volunteering?

Spotted a project you like the look of?

If you have, just let us know - give us a call, send us an email or just pop into the Centre.

If not...

 STEP 2. GET READING

On our Projects pages you'll find a summary of all the various opportunities you can get involved with.
Have a gander and let us know which ones take your fancy.

Alternatively, in the Centre we've got a folder for each of the projects that we work with.  These contain all the info you need to know...

  • What volunteers do at the project
  • Where you'll be volunteering
  • How much commitment each project needs from volunteers
  • What skills you'll be able to use / develop

Come and have a flick through them, ask us any questions you've got and we'll do the rest...

 STEP 3. GET VOLUNTEERING

Once you've picked your project, we'll take your details and refer you onto the relevant organisation.

Whatever you choose to do getting started should be straightforward.
You may need to fill in an application form or sometimes it's as simple as arranging to visit and check out what the project does.

Each situation is different but wherever you choose to volunteer you should get all the training and support you need to get started.

Don't forget, none of this will cost you a penny and of course you'll gain so much - from new confidence and a wealth of experience to new friends and a whole bunch of fun too!

Exciting Volunteering Tasters

SVC

  • Fancy volunteering but not sure you can do it regularly?
  • Want to work with a team of volunteers, not on your own?
  • Want to have a go at something a bit different?

Sounds like you need a CHALLENGE!

The Student Volunteer Centre runs loads of Challenges - these are one-off events that have helped out local schools, farms and tons of other great projects.

At the same time Challenges have given our volunteers some new skills, new friends and a bellyful of laughs into the bargain.

We’re always looking for new Challenges, so if you hear of an organisation needing some work doing let us know.  Maybe you’ve been volunteering at a project and noticed they need help with a big event.  Wherever we can help make a difference we want to get involved.

Also, if you fancy coordinating a Challenge we’re always on the look out for people to organise and lead one-off events.

For all the latest Challenges and events check out our News page - CLICK HERE for more.

"One-off challenges are great if you don't have
much time to commit and want to try new things.

I have met loads of awesome people and
got to know Nottingham that bit better!"

Nicola, student volunteer (2008)
